Fresh Website, Fresh Perspective

TimGrey.comThis weekend I finally launched an updated look for my website at www.timgrey.com. As I watched the files uploaded and checked out the new site “live” for the first time, it felt very cleansing. There’s something about a fresh start that is incredibly revitalizing.

This got me thinking about how I’ve made a conscious effort at times to make a fresh start in my photography and digital imaging. For example, I’d realize I was making a consistent mistake in composition, and would really focus on going to the opposite extreme. This happened when I realized I was always including too much in the frame, for example, and started overcompensating by focusing a lot of energy on closeups and design elements that are very narrow in scope. I have found this helps me greatly in improving my overall photographic eye.

Another good example is getting caught in a rut with image optimization. There is a tendency, I think, to use the same tried-and-true methods for every single image, instead of thinking about what adjustments would be best suited to a specific image. When that happens, a fresh start that involves only using tools you don’t normally use, or at least thinking about what other options are available, can be very helpful.

I encourage you to make an effort to gain a fresh perspective in your photography, your image optimization, and any other area of your life where you’ve become a creature of habit.
